Product Journey
Phase A: Ground Potentializing (The Discovery)
The team began their journey in the markets of Zaria (Sabon Gari). Their initial assumption was that traders needed speed—a faster payment app. However, by engaging in deep listening—sitting on mats with onion dealers and drinking tea with union leaders—they uncovered a different “Ground Truth.”
The Specific Friction: Speed wasn’t the issue; Fear was. Traders refused large orders from distant buyers because of previous non-payment fraud.
The Root Cause: A “Trust Deficit” that freezes capital.
[!NOTE] Key Research Insight: “If we build a solution that only works on an iPhone with 4G, we exclude the very people who feed the nation.”
Phase B: Prototyping (The Dual Strategy)
This insight led to a strategic Pivot. We realized we needed a Dual-Interface Ecosystem.
- For the Offline Trader: We engineered a USSD Escrow Gateway (*979#) accessible on a Nokia 3310 via the GSM network.
- For the Digital Native: We developed a Multilingual Mobile App (currently in Beta).
- The Unifying Feature: Both interfaces are fully Multilingual (Hausa/English) and connect to the same “Invisible Guardian” on the blockchain.
Phase C: Deployment (Regenerative Impact)
The final deployment connects the “dusty lanes of Zaria” to the “immutable ledger of Cardano.” When a buyer pays, Safro converts funds to a Stablecoin and locks them. Only upon delivery confirmation does the “Guardian” release funds.
Regenerative Value: By recording valid transactions on-chain (via Atala PRISM), we turn a trader’s history into a “Trust Score,” unlocking future access to credit for the unbanked.
Technical Stack: Cardano Pre-Prod (Plutus V2/Aiken), Atala PRISM (Identity), USSD Gateway, React Native (Mobile App).
Live Status: Functional Pilot. Smart Contracts deployed. USSD Menu active. Mobile App in Beta Testing.

Achievements & Reflections
Team Safro’s profound achievement was the realization that technology must bend to culture, not the other way around. By supporting both USSD and a Multilingual App, we successfully unlocked the Northern Corridor.
Key Milestone: Successfully triggering a blockchain escrow contract via a basic USSD interaction in the Hausa language.
[!TIP] The “Big Lesson”: We stopped trying to “modernize” the market and started serving it. We built a bridge, translating trust into a language Zaria understood.
